Author(s): Dr. Shiv Shankar Singh
Abstract: Women are unique creations of God on this earth. They possess immense courage, energy, and leadership abilities. Consequently, they have played crucial roles in all areas of life, including social, religious, and domestic spheres. Men and women should be given equal importance and treated equally, as both are creations of God. An imbalance in this equality can be detrimental to society. In ancient times, women were revered as Luxmai, Devi, Shakti, and more. However, over time, their status deteriorated, and they faced discrimination in various aspects of life. The balance of equal importance, opportunity, and treatment has not been maintained in our society. Despite numerous laws designed to protect and empower women, they continue to face various injustices. In India, unjustifiable discrimination between males and females has persisted since prehistoric times. Women have often been regarded as chattels and objects for gratification. They have been expected to sacrifice, serve men, and even commit suicide to maintain their image. Yet, women are always seen as symbols of sincerity, efficiency, tolerance, and patience. Despite these qualities, their success and satisfaction remain contentious issues.
